This short text adventure was originally written as part of a Lovecraftian puzzle hunt for insomnia47. It was presented as a journal the team found of a previous visitor to Carcosa. After completing it, teams had uncovered the combination for a safe at the event which they could then open to proceed.

This version is largely the same, but with some content that was cut from the original reinstated and with a few things rearranged.

I returned to the merchant. I told him all that I head learned - of the two royals Queen Cassilda and her daughter Camilla, of the five dukes, the four barons, and their entourages comprising eleven knights. The merchant nodded and gestured at the box. To my amazement I saw that it was open. Inside, I saw what I had never dreamed I might see, dozens of stones bearing that most ancient of protections, the Elder Sign. Trembling, I took one in my hand and felt the heat of it against my palm. The merchant closed the box, and turned to me. As he spoke, that curious echo returned, growing more profound as, to my shock, the merchant began to fade from view.

"You have spoken true of the judgement that came to Carcosa. Take your prize, and use it well. I must go now, to another market, to another grocer's stall, but I shall return when the need arises for another to take hold of ancient power by the knowledge of how the cleansing came to Carcosa. Two royals, five dukes, four barons, eleven knights. By their lives, you have been given a great boon, noble traveller."
